Description
Matcha Kirishima – a ceremonial-grade matcha Grand Cru
Upon whisking, Matcha Kirishima creates a luminous, jade-green froth and unveils a rare elegance. Its floral notes are exquisitely fine and refined.
This matcha Grand Cru originates in Kagoshima from Tencha leaves that mature for six months following the spring harvest (Ichibancha), then are ground to fine powder using a stone mill. This maturation process gives the tea superior aromatic complexity and smoothness. Three premium cultivars combine to create this remarkable matcha: Okumidori, Saemidori and Asanoka.
Its striking green hue comes from the spring harvest. The leaves are ground to an especially fine consistency, with no synthetic colourings of any kind — entirely natural, as expected of premium organic matcha.
About matcha
During the 12th century, Buddhist monk Eisai transported tea seeds from China to Japan. In those days, tea was made into a fine powder and whisked in a bowl. What began as an exclusive practice of the nobility gradually expanded and eventually became fundamental to Japanese Zen philosophy and aesthetics, particularly through the Cha No Yu tea ceremony.

Suggestion of preparation
Unlike all other teas, matcha is made from tea leaves ground into a very fine powder. This green tea is not infused but whisked. It is prepared using a whisk, bowl, and spatula.
- Place 2 spatulas (or 1 level teaspoon) of Kirishima matcha into a bowl.
- Pour 5 cl of water heated to 70°C (160°F) over the powder.
- Holding the bowl firmly with one hand, whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until a thick froth forms.
- Optional: add 10 cl of milk of your choice.
Storage tips:
To preserve the quality of this delicate tea, refrigerate after opening.
