Description
An organic smoked tea in the lapsang souchong tradition
This black tea is smoked over pine wood according to the traditional production method of a lapsang souchong. Its name "Xiao Lapsang" means "little lapsang", on account of its lighter smoking. This tea is part of a centuries-old tradition, a great classic ever since tea first reached the West.
All delicacy, this black tea combines the elegant smoky notes emblematic of lapsang souchong with the indulgent notes of fine Chinese black teas.
This tea comes from organic farming and has been certified by an approved independent inspection body.
The origins of smoked teas
The birth of smoked tea is said to be due to an accident that occurred in Fujian province in the 17th century. As night fell, a general of the Chinese army is said to have requisitioned a warehouse belonging to a tea producer to lodge his soldiers there. But the place was entirely given over to drying still-damp tea leaves; in a panic, the planter is then said to have had the idea of lighting a spruce-wood fire to speed up the drying. The whole batch is said to have been sold to an English merchant who, back in Europe, soon made it one of the favourite teas of the British.
