Description
A roasted green tea from Japan
Japan is famous for its umami-rich spring green teas – the renowned sencha – but the country also produces very different green teas with a deliciously toasted profile. Bancha Hojicha is one of them.
The word “bancha” signals that this tea comes from summer or autumn harvests, while “hojicha” translates as roasted tea: it is indeed through roasting that this green tea takes on its brown hue and develops a very pleasant woody aroma.
Although hojicha is sometimes ground into a powder, our organic Bancha Hojicha is brewed as loose leaves and can be enjoyed equally well hot or cold.
This tea is organically grown and has been certified by an approved independent certification body.
Thirst-quenching and low in caffeine
Bancha Hojicha has a reputation for being thirst-quenching and low in caffeine. The reason is straightforward: bancha teas often come from so-called equalising harvests, which contain fewer buds and include lower leaves, naturally lower in caffeine. In Japan, this tea is served on every occasion, including before meals, and can be enjoyed hot or cold.
A versatile and much-loved tea that offers an excellent gateway into Japanese teas for lovers of Chinese teas!
